- Praise is "a public and vocal act of genuine delight in the person and actions of God."* Praise in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) is always spoken and meant to be public. There is no silent praise to God.
- Thanks is a New Testament word. It can be done aloud or privately in one's heart.
This perspective is a new one for me. It's changing the way I think about my own prayer life. Based on these new-to-me definitions I too often stop at thanks, and fail to actually PRAISE! I desire to be more vocal and public about how I feel about our magnificent God. I want to use a LOUD VOICE (that's "MEGAS PHONE" in the Greek!) What about YOU?
